Our Dodo

Mauritius was best known as the former home of the dodo, undoubtedly the best known extinct species.

About Mauritius

Many believe Mark Twain described Mauritius as heaven on Earth. While he certainly sung the praises of its “rugged clusters of crags and peaks, green to their summits”, after a visit in 1896, the comparison with paradise was actually made by a proud islander.

In Following the Equator, Twain wrote: “This is the only country in the world where the stranger is not asked ‘How do you like this place?’
